Psalm 55:21 (KJV)
There are moments in life when we encounter people whose words sound kind, gentle, and reassuring, yet their actions reveal something very different. Many of us have experienced the pain of discovering that someone we trusted was not sincere. Their words were smooth, but their intentions were not pure. Their speech felt comforting at first, but over time we realized it carried hidden harm.
The Bible does not ignore this reality. In fact, Scripture speaks very plainly about people who operate with manipulation, deceit, and wicked motives. Psalm 55 describes a person whose words were “smoother than butter,” yet inside their heart was war. That image is powerful. It reminds us that sometimes the deepest wounds do not come from obvious enemies, but from those who speak softly while carrying hidden agendas.
Yet even in this difficult truth, there is comfort for us. God sees what we cannot see. While we may struggle to understand someone’s motives, the Lord sees every thought, every intention, and every hidden plan.
Proverbs 12:5 (KJV)
The Word of God draws a clear line between the righteous and the wicked. The righteous seek truth, peace, and honesty. Their words are meant to build up, encourage, and guide. But the wicked often use words as tools—tools to manipulate, control, or divide. Their counsel is rooted in deceit because their hearts are not aligned with God.
If we are honest, dealing with manipulative people can be exhausting. It can make us question ourselves. It can leave us feeling hurt, confused, or even angry. But the Lord calls us to a higher response. He does not call us to return deception with deception or cruelty with cruelty. Instead, He calls us to remain grounded in righteousness.
Proverbs 11:3 (KJV)
Integrity becomes our compass. When others operate in manipulation, we continue to operate in truth. When others speak falsely, we speak honestly. When others attempt to create division, we seek peace. Our character should not change simply because someone else’s has.
The beautiful promise within this verse is that integrity guides us. When we walk uprightly before God, He leads us, protects us, and keeps our path steady. Meanwhile, the very wickedness that manipulative people depend on will eventually become the thing that destroys them. The Bible reminds us again and again that deception may appear successful for a moment, but it never lasts.
There is also an important lesson here for our own hearts. Before we focus too much on the wickedness around us, we must ask God to search us as well. None of us want to be people who use words carelessly, manipulate situations, or allow pride to influence our actions.
The prayer of every believer should be that our hearts remain clean and our motives remain pure.
Psalm 139:23–24 (KJV)
This is a humble prayer. It asks God to examine not just what we say publicly, but what lives deep within our hearts. It asks Him to remove anything that resembles deceit or wickedness within us. Because our goal is not simply to recognize manipulation in others; our goal is to walk so closely with God that our own lives reflect His truth.
So when we encounter people who operate in manipulation, we do not lose hope. We do not lose our character. And we certainly do not lose our faith. Instead, we remember that God sees everything. He defends the righteous. He honors integrity. And in His perfect time, He brings justice to every hidden thing.
As believers, our responsibility is simple but powerful: stay faithful, stay honest, and stay anchored in the truth of God’s Word.

Powerful Exhortation
Brothers and sisters, let this be a reminder to all of us today: do not allow the wickedness of others to pull you away from the righteousness of God. When people manipulate, deceive, or try to harm with their words, remember that our calling is different. We are called to walk in truth, to speak with sincerity, and to live with integrity.
The world may reward cunning and manipulation for a season, but God honors faithfulness for eternity. The path of deceit may appear smooth for a moment, but the path of righteousness leads to life.
So guard your heart. Be discerning in your relationships. But above all, keep your character anchored in Christ. Do not let bitterness take root where God has called you to grow in grace.
Stand firm in the truth. Walk uprightly before the Lord. Speak words that bring life instead of harm. And trust that the same God who sees every hidden motive will also protect, guide, and vindicate those who remain faithful to Him.
Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
”So let us continue doing what is right. Let us continue walking in integrity. And let us continue trusting that in God’s perfect time, righteousness will always stand.
